See How ANA Pocket Leveraged SKYFLAG to Increase User Retention

How SKYFLAG Deepens User Understanding and Unlocks New Market Opportunities

Skyfall Inc. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Tomokazu Hasegawa; hereinafter “Skyfall”) is pleased to announce that it has published the results following the implementation of the ad monetization platform “SKYFLAG” for the smartphone reward points app “ANA Pocket,” operated by ANA X Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shinya Kanda).

Background of “SKYFLAG” Implementation

ANA Pocket is a rewards app that lets users earn points based on the distance they travel—whether by walking, cycling, driving, taking the train, or flying. Users can accumulate points through all of their everyday journeys and redeem them by spinning a guaranteed-win gacha, where rewards can be exchanged for ANA Mileage Club miles or points from a variety of partner programs.

At launch, ANA Pocket’s monetization model centered primarily on paid subscriptions. Six months after the service launched, however, the company recognized that earning miles was a key driver of continued usage among paid members, prompting it to explore advertising as an additional revenue stream. SKYFLAG was introduced in August 2022 because it enabled ANA Pocket to generate advertising revenue without compromising the user experience.

Purpose of Implementing SKYFLAG

・To increase long-term user engagement by leveraging advertising-based monetization.

Challenges Before Implementing SKYFLAG

・Implementing an advertising monetization solution without compromising the user experience.

Results After Implementing “SKYFLAG”

When ANA Pocket first implemented SKYFLAG, the app placed a cap on the number of points users could earn as part of its internal cost management strategy. However, after determining that points earned through SKYFLAG would not negatively impact cost control, the company removed this cap in December 2024.
As a result, compared with the period before the cap was lifted, revenue generated through SKYFLAG and ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) more than doubled.

In addition, through reports analyzing the behavior of users who engaged with SKYFLAG, ANA Pocket gained deeper insights into the types of offers (advertisements) that resonated most with its users, as well as their key characteristics. These insights have enabled the company to develop a more comprehensive understanding of its user base.

Effects Experienced After Implementation

・Re-identifying users’ areas of interest through their actions toward offers (ads) within “SKYFLAG.”

・Promoting further continuous utilization while maintaining users’ motivation to use the service.

The interview also explores what ANA Pocket found most compelling about SKYFLAG compared with other solutions, as well as the key strategies behind using SKYFLAG to strengthen users’ motivation to engage with the service and encourage continued usage. Read the full interview for further details.
